Shit's Getting Real For Trump

The special counsel overseeing the investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 election is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether President* Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice, officials said.

The move by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate Trump's own conduct marks a major turning point in the nearly year-old FBI investigation, which until recently focused on Russian meddling during the presidential campaign and on whether there was any coordination between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin. Investigators have also been looking for any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates, officials said.

Trump had received private assurances from former FBI Director James Comey starting in January that he was not personally under investigation. Officials say that changed shortly after Comey's firing.
The Trump defenders keep crying that "there's no fire, just smoke." But the smoke keeps getting thicker and thicker.

so it's a witch hunt.

Keep looking, you'll eventually find something..... And if you don't, it at least makes him look bad.

I'm still waiting for them to state what crime they think was committed. And what the "Russians" are supposed to have done.

Agree with B... sigh If any of this were true, WHY wasn't it found under your boy? They had 6 months of investigations to come up with something!

"The fact that we haven't found anything yet just proves that they must be hiding something......".

Comrade, you called it.

I've been wondering.

The folks Mueller is hiring are not good for president four-year-old or anyone else in his orbit who isn't as clean as the driven snow.
It seems kinda dumb to me, to pick these fights with the very people who can turn your whole world upside down and shake it until something ugly falls out.
He had to know that is what they do. Everyone knows that, as he would say.

Not that I feel like writing about.

Trump's playing in a league in which he can't cut a check to make it all go away (cf Trump University). But he's not acting like it. And neither is his lawyer.

I guess the protesters will soon start chanting "Lock Him Up!"

Would that be followed, Comrade, by the people at Faux News directing outrage at the lack of respect for the President? Of course it would.

Obstruction of justice? Did I miss something?

No Nangleator, you didn't miss anything, Loretta Lynch truly obstructed justice.

B--

Is it still a witch hunt if it finds an actual witch?

Tod Germanica said...

Unless you're some christopath like Pence (or, well, I suppose about 48% of US voters) you know there's no such thing as witches. But traitors do exist. Let's call it a traitor hunt.

Tod, works for me. We can follow the trail of E-mails on an unsecured server, to the sale of our uranium to Russia, to dead Americans in Bengazi. Maybe we will find a traitor.

Tod says there is no such thing as a witch.

So I'm a figment of imagination? Good to know.

As I see it Comrade, the smoke is coming from the entourage, not Trump. If he'd just kept quiet he might have survived the Russians but he had to "help his friends".

I don't like the man but I give him an A for effort, even though he now faces obstruction charges. This is government, not business and none of his staff knows the difference.

As for smoke, we cure hams and turkeys with smoke all the time. Good eating. Yep it is, well, if that sort of thing is on ones menu that is.

I'm a first time commenter and long time reader via mobile. Thank you for being Comrade Misfit. You are appreciated.

So... the trump supporters here are using the argument, "Don't prosecute trump for obstruction of justice, or investigate him for treason, because other crimes may have been committed, even though years of investigations revealed no evidence of such."

The whole "don't fix something because something else is broken too," is an attitude I'm familiar with, from conservatives. Bear in mind, adherence to the principle will empty all prisons and render courts, judges, lawyers and police irrelevant. Just *who* is tough on crime, again?

So B- you contend that an investigation (the action of investigating something or someone; formal or systematic examination or research) with a witch hunt (a campaign directed against a person or group holding unorthodox or unpopular views) are the same?

Trump's own words support previous testimony given by various individuals under oath that an investigation is warranted. Of course he is still innocent until/unless proven guilty, but Mueller would not be investigating without having sufficiently probative evidence that makes obstruction likelier than not. Trump's twitters made the "cloud" bigger, but didn't lift it one bit.

I don't support most of Trump's policies or his misguided efforts to make "America Great Again" such as using more "clean" coal. But I do feel he should be accorded the same legal scrutiny that any individual would be held to when their actions raise questions of legality, purpose, and constitutionality.

Dennis is banned at SteveM's house. Not Jester but...

Nangleator,
If you are referring to me with your 2:16 post, you are quite mistaken. I never said or implied that President Trump should not be investigated nor charged if that is where the evidence leads. I only believe that there are others that need investigating an being charged if that is where the evidence leads.

Thomas Ten Bears,
If I am the Dennis you are referring to, I have no knowledge of SteveM nor his house.
If in fact I am banned from there it would be nice to be informed of it and the reason by the person who banned me.

Thomas Ten Bears,
I'm afraid that our realities don't have enough points of contact for me to discuss your 5:22 comment, so I won't comment on your statements.

I am curious who SteveM is and if you believe I am the Dennis who is banned?

Pleas, enlighten me.

What, exactly, are they accusing him of to warrant an investigation? The DNC claim that Hillary lost because he "colluded" with "the Russians"?

There has to be more than an unverified claim by a third party to warrant such an investigation. I still haven't seen anything.

No one knows if it was "the Russians" that broke into the DNC server. The DNC has REFUSED to allow it to be examined by the FBI. The only source of claim of collusion with "the Russians" is from the DNC, repeated by leftist media.
