The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is making what has been dubbed an unofficial visit to India to promote his family’s real estate projects. But he’s also planning to deliver a foreign policy speech on Indo-Pacific relations at an event with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We've descended a steep slope from the days when the big outrage was about a presidential relative selling lousy beer.
...
Indian newspapers have been running full-page, glossy advertisements hyping his arrival and the latest Trump Tower project under the headline: “Trump is here — Are You Invited?” The ads also solicited home buyers to plunk down a booking fee (about $38,000) to “join Mr. Donald Trump Jr. for a conversation and dinner.”
(The funny thing is that they would have rather had Ivanka show up.)
Or an ex president getting paid high six figures or more for a speech......
ReplyDeleteNo matter who, it is wrong.
I'm a little less exercised by an ex-president "filling the ol' coffers", as they are very much out of power. About the only two former presidents who didn't go out on the "make a buck" speaking tours were Carter, Johnson and Truman. Too early to tell about Obama.
ReplyDeleteHere, Donny Junior is implicitly selling access by giving a speech on behalf of his dad while selling stuff that's supposed to be separate from his dad.

ReplyDeleteExcept Bubba "filled his coffers" while Hillary was SecState. Lots of shady (and likely illegal, if investigated, which Barry did not) stuff happened right after he got paid for a speech. Coincidence, I am sure....
ReplyDeleteEither way, at some point it should stop.
