Look! Up In the Sky!

I've been having some fun, stealing glimpses of the flow of air traffic on Flight Aware. Right now, Southwest has 362 airplanes in the air. (By operator is here.)American has 302 and Untied has 201. FedEx has 51 airplanes in the air and they are all their big freighters; DC-10s, MD-11s, A306s make up most of their fleet that is flying right now

NetJets has 45 aircraft in the air, mostly various models of Cessna Citations, with a few Falcon 2000s and Canadair Galaxies also flying. Times aren't too tough for some people.

Last evening I mentioned all the Cessna Caravans flying. During the day, there was hardly a one airborne. I guess they've pretty much taken over the freight-dog duties from the tired old Beech 18s. I didn't see a single BE-18 in the air.

There are even three Cessna 150s on IFR flight plans right now. One is burning through the skies from Bridgeport, CT to Nantucket Island at a blistering 79 knots.
