A Stable and Democratic Iraq?

You can forget about the "democratic" part. The Iraqi police state is returning:
“This will be a police state, no question,” says a Western diplomat with long experience of Iraq. “It’ll take two or three years. But it’s coming.”
Torture for shits and grins. Executions based on evidence that would shock the conscience of a Texas court (ok, bad example). And a leader that is all too willing to use the power of the police to cement his own hold on power.

Heckuvajob, Chimpy. A trillion dollars, over five thousand American lives to transform Iraq from a police state that was hostile to Iran to a police state that is more or less aligned with Iran.

The mullas in Qom must be laughing themselves sick.

  1. This was about as predictable as water being wet. I mean, this has been U.S. modus operandi for decades -- overthrow the native government, then install a dictator. See: Pinochet. Shah Reza Pahalavi. Somozo. And so on and so forth.

People who are surprised just haven't been paying attention, that's all. Actually, the only surprising thing is that it took so long to find a dictator this time. I guess the Bush Administration really did believe that bullshit about "democracy" that they kept forking over in reeking piles of bull excrement.
