Jumping Right Off the Fiscal Cliff

The Irish government followed the Pied Piper of Fiscal Austerity. And they are paying the price for it. Ireland is mired in a severe recession with no prospects of digging themselves out anytime soon because they listened to the deficit hawks and cut their spending.

They refuse to do anything to stimulate their economy, their people are suffering and their government is not only turning a deaf ear, their government is planning to ratchet up the pain. Because people see that coming, they are not willing to spend, they are saving more, and the economy spins further down the drain. And those who can are emigrating in search of employment.

Sort of like a fiscal equivalent of the potato famine, if you will.

But that is what conservatives love to do, they get their rocks off by making the people on the bottom 4/5th of the economic ladder suffer.

  1. Yeppers. Isn't it amazing how these folks love pushing austerity... for other people, not themselves, of course? Funny, I don't see any of these suit-wearing "bankers", "economists", or "policy experts" offering to give up their six-to-eight-figure salaries and live on the meager offerings that state unemployment compensation gives you. Huh, what's with that?!
