Muslim community leaders from several swing states pledged to withdraw support for U.S. President Joe Biden on Saturday at a conference in suburban Detroit, citing his refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Democrats in Michigan have warned the White House that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war could cost him enough support within the Arab American community to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
Leaders from Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, Georgia, Nevada and Pennsylvania gathered behind a lectern that read “Abandon Biden, ceasefire now” in Dearborn, Michigan, the city with the largest concentration of Arab Americans in the United States.
Unless Hell freezes over and the Party of Trump selects someone else to be their presidential candidate, the Republican candidate for president in 2024 will be Donald John Motherfucking Trump.[1]
This is part of what he is saying that he wants to do:
Trump wants to reimpose his travel ban that originally targeted seven Muslim-majority countries and expand it to “keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the country.” In the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel, he has pledged to put in place “ideological screening” for immigrants. His aim: bar “dangerous lunatics, haters, bigots, and maniacs,” as well as those who “empathize with radical Islamic terrorists and extremists.”
Don't support Biden and you'll get Trump. His "Muslim ban" will pretty much include everybody who is Muslim, which is what his acolytes/henchmen, including his duty Nazi, Stephen Miller, has been agitating for. Trump will expel anyone and everyone he can who is not here permanently and if you don't think that Muslims will be high priority to be rounded up and expelled, then I have a bridge to Hawaii to sell to you.
Look, I get it. Everyone wants their candidate to be ideologically pure and to support the things that they hold dear. Well, guess what? It doesn't work that way. Sometimes you have to ask yourself which candidate will do the least damage to your causes. Sometimes you have to ask yourself who is worse.
In this election, there is no contest for Muslims. The worst guy is Trump. If you don't support the guy who is running against Trump, then you may very well get Trump.[2]
And, if you can then sleep at night, knowing that you had a hand in his win, then you really are not someone that I would ever care to know.

The Democrats are fixin' to run the one person that can lose to trumples in 2024 just like 2016. It's a party with structural problems.
ReplyDeleteBut the party realignment has not played out as experts expected. Working-class and non-white voters, once steadfast Democratic supporters, are shifting to the Republican Party in droves. Between 2018 and 2022, Republican margins among the white working class, already large, grew by seven percentage points. Among the non-white working class, the swing was more than double that...
Democrats misunderstood Hispanics, cringingly insisting on rebranding the ethnic group as “Latinx” and mistakenly assuming their most pressing concern was a pathway to citizenship for illegal migrants. Polls show that Hispanics are almost as likely to support border security as other Americans. Second- and third-generation Hispanics are more likely to be Republican, mirroring a rightward shift that was seen with white Catholics, once the fuel of the Democratic city machines, over the past century...
Whether the movement of the working classes, white and not white, towards the Republicans persists could determine who wins the presidency in 2024. Some are optimistic for Mr Biden, pointing to the continued drift of the educated towards the Democratic Party. But for every American adult who graduated from college, there are two who did not. It is not an ideal trade for Democrats, who are learning that demography is not destiny.

You could say that it is only trumples crazy that make the democrats viable. I have Anderson Clayton tring to right the ship so we'll see how that goes. She has a plan and she is 25.

Not really. No Democrat wants to play the role of Teddy Kennedy in 1980. Everyone knows that if a challenged is mounted against an incumbent in the presidential primaries, the incumbent stands a greater chance of losing.
ReplyDeleteBiden won in 2020 and the party is going to to dance with the one that they brought.
Trump, this time around, has nothing to lose from destroying the guard rails and going full-on autocrat. Anyone who does not recognize that and does not heed the warnings will be as complicit in what happens as the Germans who voted in the 1933 Reichstag elections.
And we will deserve everything that happens afterwards.
The Economist represents the outside view
ReplyDeleteIt may be easier than you think to debias your decisions and make better forecasts by building the “outside view.”

The Hispanics don't want to be lumped in the blacks - they don't want any part of that sturm und drang for starters. Hispanics come from different backgrounds so they aren't all the same. It's why you do post-mortems on each and every forecast.
Also, if you believe that Biden isn't doing everything that can be done to stop the war, you have been consuming some powerful and dangerous hallucinogens. There's nothing Bibi would like more than to have Biden calling for a ceasefire as an excuse for why he fucked the war up so badly, and he is fighting for his political life also.

...and everyone without a lilywhite skin and pointy hatted mind gets a free one-way ticket on a freight car, no destination choice.
ReplyDeleteThe reaction is to try to get some movement from the Biden Administration. They have done a poor job of publicizing what they are doing to try to stop civil a bloodshed in the Middle East, and are paying a price. The problem here is you are trying to tell people who are seeing relatives killed on TV daily that they have to do X. That’s just a formula for them to give you the middle finger and do Y. They don’t hear or see all the ban stuff, just the TOFF saying the Israeli/Palestinian conflict wouldn’t have occurred if he’d been in office. It’s crap, but it’ll work.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note, I automatically typed “Israeli/Arab” and had to correct it…shows I’ve been around a wee bit.
CP88, that is all true, but it does not change the truth that politics is the art of the possible. That is especially true when it comes to voting.
ReplyDeleteThere are two candidates. Oh, sure, there are minor candidates: Stein, little RFK and whatever wanker "No Labels" runs, but those are all Trumpist sock-puppets.
Biden or Trump.
Comrade, that is also true…but when your cousin gets blown up (or beheaded) sometimes reason goes out the window. If Biden can rationally make the argument, using TOFF’s gaffs and comments, he can regain those voters…if he doesn’t, TOFF’s bullshit combined with Faux News lies may be bad…
ReplyDeleteWe've already heard their side...

ReplyDelete1) Netanyahu has called, loudly and clearly, for genocide.
You and I know - but many gentiles don't - that a reference to Amalek like the one Netanyahu made is a call for extermination, down to the very last infant and very last donkey. More details from Juan Cole are available here .
2) Despite this, the Biden administration is sending weapons to Netanyahu anyway.
3) One question I've repeatedly seen: if Biden is helping genocide Arabs over there, how can we be sure he won't genocide us here? I wish I had a good answer.
4) The majority of Arab Americans are Christians - at least 60%. I've checked multiple sources, and all say that no more than 30% of Arab Americans are Muslims.
It seems to me that the best strategy would be pressuring the Biden administration not to provide weapons to a genocidal monomaniac who includes Kach terrorists in his Cabinet.
[And, if you want to get Arabs to vote for Biden, a more effective response would be that Netanyahu wants Trump in the Oval Office, but we need to put pressure on Biden anyway.]
Sam, I have no quarrel with putting pressure on Biden. What s going on is a catastrophe and whether or not Israel manages to kill most of the Hamas leadership, they are losing the perceptions war. They run the risk of being seen in the same light as Putin and Hitler.
ReplyDeleteComrade, that ship has sailed, Bibi has given those who oppose Israeli a figurehead to toss the rotten fruit at. As time goes by, more and more data will emerge about what Israeli strikes have done, and it likely won’t improve the perceptions. In terms of simple numbers the atrocities the Israelis can point at will be shown to be less, probably much less, that what has happened because Bibi’s crew ignored the messages from Blinken and Co. about the need to have a priority of protecting civilians. They are also killing off the doctors in Gaza, something that will be remembered long, regardless if it is deliberate or a side effect. When you beat an animal repeatedly, it becomes unpredictable and desperate…the same happens with humans.
