A border crossing between the U.S. and Canada has been closed after a vehicle exploded at a checkpoint on a bridge near Niagara Falls.
The FBI’s field office in Buffalo said in a statement that it was investigating the explosion on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the two countries across the Niagara River.
Photos and video taken by news organizations and posted on social media showed a security booth that had been singed by flames.
Further information wasn’t immediately available.
No doubt that the 101st Keyboard Commenteriat will be jumping to the usual conclusions.
UPDATE: Apparently, it was just garden-variety automotive stupidity. Whether or not alcohol was involved... TBD.
UPDATE 2: In reading some of the linked coverage elsewhere, one thing is clear: Fox News rots people's brains. No explosives in the car, no link to terrorism, both were things that those numbnuts at Fox claimed to be true,
I read that it was a Kiss fan in a Bentley, but what kind of Kiss fan has never heard "Detroit Rock City"?

We will never know what made him floor it to his death. His girlfriend's handjob, or a shot of coke, or who knows what. It seems it was all just automotive stupidity despite reports of "blowing up", cars do disintegrate on impact. It was nice that the frenzy only lasted a bit before the facts came out.

I know everyone's cranked about terrorism these days but the actual narrative is so much more contemporary and satisfying: a rich drunk man-child, angry because his KISS concert was cancelled, roars off in his $300K car to do a flipping General Lee at 100 mph and die in a flaming wreck trying to rush the border!
ReplyDeleteThe right wingers elsewhere as of Thursday were still insisting it was a FBI covered up terrorist attack. Because you 'cannot have an explosion without explosives." In 1977 a new Cadillac was hit broadside by a 1962 Chevy doing an estimated 100 MPH around 1/4 mile from my house. It sounded like a bomb going of to me and by the time I got there it was a fireball. Gas can explode like a bomb under the right circumstances as I learned in a Fire Training Course I took at work.
