That Maybe All for the Flying Fortress

An upcoming airworthiness directive may, effectively, ground those few B-17s still flying. The cost to make new parts may be too frakking much for those few airplanes still flyable.

I count myself fortunate to have seen and heard B-17s fly.

  1. There aren't even that many P-63's left to worry about taking down B-17's.

  2. Actually, lazy count was four airworthy P-63’s and four currently airworthy B-17’s (with 5 or 6 more potentials)…just saying…but that was the fault of the Air Boss all the way.

  3. Ah. Sad - I hope at least a couple put the $$ into keeping them flying. But Nothing lasts forever.

I am lucky to have flown on 909 many years ago. Unforgettable.
