Shorter Fox News: "Yes, We Lied. Here's $787,500,000."

Over three-quarters of a billion dollars is what Fox "News" will pay Dominion Voting Systems so that Fox News executives and on-air personalities won't have their lives and prevarications aired in open court.

Fox News basically admitted that yes, they lied. Paying that much in a settlement is also a tacit acknowledgement that they deemed it likely that they were going to be beaten like gongs in this case.

If you watch Fox News, keep in mind that a judge found that they lied and that Fox paid enough money to buy several F-35s in order to avoid that coming out more than it already has.

  1. One of the lawyers said it was a record settlement on CNN. The mens rea thing still exists in the future expected actions. Expected as a matter of probability only.

  2. Unfortunately, it seems that FOX does not have to air an apology or state that they promoted the false claims made by the T**** group. Their viewers, many of which get their viewpoints ONLY from FOX, will never get to understand that Laura, Tucker, Jeninie, and Sean are simply talking heads with no real journalistic integrity. They supported and encouraged the Big Lie, which led to more division in the country and ultimately provided, for some, a reason for January 6th.

I’m not familiar with the legal profession or process but if Fox files for bankruptcy (assuming the other six lawsuits go against them as well) are they absolved of paying out the negotiated settlements?

  3. There's still the Smartmatic suit and the Mike Lindell suits, so we're not quite done with them.

  5. Fox news and their defenders are already putting the spin to the settlement as if they just paid because they wanted to settle because the deck was stacked against them. Let's hope the settlement includes Fox apologizing on their prime time shows by the same people who lied and for more than a fifteen second spot. Maybe like a one hour minimum per liar. During this suit they were still carrying on with the lying without any hesitation except maybe a little more caution in who the accuse of their fantasy wrongdoing. It's doubtful that they lost any of their audience because so many people actually like to be lied to, so they keep their faux outrage going full throttle.

  6. Ten Bears, I doubt it. The judge had ruled that Fox couldn’t use a defense of “those lies were newsworthy, so we aired them.”

Fox avoided an embarrassing trial. Dominion gets cash now, not years down the road, if ever,

My guess, in a private conversation, was that Fix would settle on the eve of trial for $700 million.

  7. Dominion and Fox each did the math, keeping in mind their primary responsibilities are to their stockholders, not the general public.

Dominion gets 40 years of gross revenues.

Fox pays 6 months net income and doesn't have to admit things that will get them in trouble in all the other libel suits in the pipeline.

  8. Less, for the lawyers will take a good chunk and there will be expenses, too.

But those depositions and discovery materials will be available by subpoena to Symantec, who is also suing Fox News and most, if not all, of the same people.

  10. Black rock owns Fox (mostly) and Dominion (mostly).
So it seems like moving your wallet from your right pocket to your left. Curious. But I don't nothing from nothing.
