Bunch of twin-engined goodness:

  1. Very cool. Love old Apache, Russian LI2 Douglas C-47.clone, Aero, PBY, DH Dragon Rapide- high aspect ratio wings for a biplane. Concerned more with range than turn rate. Beech D-18 with transparent bomb dropping nose must be a trainer, you would not think it would carry a big enough bomb load for actual attacks.
Wind must have shifted, taking off in both directions. Fork tailed double doctor killer!

  3. Tod, you are correct. The glass noise Twin Beech was a bombardier trainer. Its designation was the AT-11. There was a version with three navigation stations and an astrodome that was used for training navigators, it was the AT-7.

  4. CM- The AT-11 was also used as a nav trainer by the Navy in that configuration, since the off duty pilot was also the navigator and bombardier in the PBY and other ASW birds.
