Almost a year ago, my wife and daughter spotted a feral kitten at the edge of the woods. They started leaving a bowl of food out until they saw her regularly. They moved the bowl closer to the house each day until the bowl was on the patio. Next it was a storage bin with a blanket, followed with a heating pad. Eventually the kitten was brave enough to stay when they cracked open the door and held out their hands. Long story short, Lilly is now an indoor pet, who only after nearly one year will be in the same room with me.
ReplyDeleteI also had bought my wife a trail camera and hooked it up on the back porch to record the kitten at night when the bin was in use. It also recorded 3 raccoons, 2 opossums (one was a HUGE momma), numerous squirrels (at daybreak) and four other cats that came for the free feast. We still feed the menagerie and are working with the local catch/neuter/release group to help quell the feral cats in the area.
My motto is "I can't help them all, but I can help them one at a time". Currently have eight members in the 'garage crew'.*
