leave now.

Made me happy to see we jut may make it off this gravity well.
ReplyDeleteIt was very smooth looking. I'd love to hear what the
Astronauts though of the ride.
Eck!
Elon Musk is an annoying, self-important prick, but he did this right. Now, as for CST-100, given Boeing’s recent issues, will it end up being “If it’s Boeing, I ain’t going”? They could use it as a cargo ship and a backup to Dragon/Falcon.
ReplyDeleteSpaceX did it for about 60% of what NASA's paying Boeing. The only thing that is reusable for the CST-1000 is the capsule. SpaceX landed the first stage of its Falcon booster while Crew Dragon was on its way to orbit.
ReplyDelete...and Boeing has stepped on its genital appendage (with cleated shoes) so badly/consistently that it didn't make the grade for the Moon efforts. The Starliner will take a bigger load/more people into orbit, but there's no thinking outside the box.
ReplyDeleteCrew Dragon could probably launch 10x for every SL launch....and the cost is going down, while Boeing is billing like a white shoe law firm.
Interesting YouTube here on the tradeoffs involved in rocket engine design and fuels...and why SpaceX is redefining rocket engine success. You will note the the SLS for Starliner is using Shuttle enginges (built to be used many times) once and then throwing them away.
