There are still a few around.

  1. Thanks for including the link. I didn't know about them. They kinda look like the big brother of the Velocity V twin.

  2. Back in the late 80s, early 90s, I lived in Billerica and would see some of the approaches and departures from Hanscom Field, which had a Beech sales office. Every once in a while, I'd see one of these beauties fly over and get all excited.

  3. I saw the Starship fly at the Alliance Airshow in ‘88, shortly after it was certified ‘87. It flew as a preview in 1983, at the NBAA convention in Dallas. The fun part is that 5 still fly, and that the owner of one bought $38,000,000 worth of parts and such from Beech in 2009, for pennies on the dollar. They accepted, just to get rid of the parts, and delivered 12 semi-trucks of supplies to him a few days later. Still doing business as “Starfleetsupport.com”.

The Piaggio Avanti shows what the Starship could have done if the composite technology had been advanced enough, but Piaggio made the decision to stay mainly conventional, and it paid off...for a while. Delivery’s are down and the company in receivership.
