A ragged army of Honduran migrants streamed through southern Mexico on Sunday heading toward the United States, after making an end-run around Mexican agents who briefly blocked them at the Guatemalan border. One question is not being asked: Why is this massive march of migrants happening now? Why not three or six months ago?
...
After praising Mexico for its no-nonsense response when police at a southern border bridge pushed the migrants back with riot shields and pepper spray, U.S. President Donald Trump again hammered Democratic Party opponents over what he apparently sees as a winning issue for Republicans a little over two weeks ahead of midterm elections.
After blaming the Democrats for “weak laws” on immigration a few days earlier, Trump said via Twitter: “The Caravans are a disgrace to the Democrat party. Change the immigration laws NOW!”
Who benefits from organizing or spurring a massive on foot march of Central American migrants to the U.S. border right at this particular time?
Well, we all know who benefits. This guy:
The migrant march smells like a classic GOP rafucking exercise.
But the migrant caravan is by no means the only despicable thing that Trump is doing right now.
The Trump administration is considering narrowly defining gender as a biological, immutable condition determined by genitalia at birth, the most drastic move yet in a governmentwide effort to roll back recognition and protections of transgender people under federal civil rights law.To any Log Cabin Republicans reading this: Do you seriously believe that Trump is going to stop there? You guys are next. The Christian Taliban wants to reverse the Supreme Courts rulings (Lawrence v. Texas, U.S. v. Windsor, and Obergefell v Hodges) that decriminalized being gay and granted gay folk the right to marry. Trump thinks he can probably get there since the Court now includes Justice "I Like Beer and Groping Women" Kavanaugh.
The Christian Taliban want to go back to the days when LGBT people were outlaws in the ancient sense, that they were beyond the protection of the laws. Trump will go along with that because the CT are part of his base.
Hell, Trump would push to overturn Loving v Virginia, if he thought he could. That would please his Nazi base.
I fail to see how you can conflate transgender gender with sexual preference..
ReplyDeleteKind of a large and twisted leap there.
and, re: the "Migrants families" (who, oddly, are mostly young men) could just as easily have been organized by the Dems to get their base organized....One is as likely as the other.
If you think they should be allowed in, how many of those young men are you going to house and feed for...say a year? while they get themselves organized and learn English so they can then "disappear into the shadows"?
How about we follow our laws, like those you trumpet, and listen to the appeals? To have the President say that he will not allow a person to file an appeal, in accordance with our laws, is about as far from the Republican ethos that you profess.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me, B., why you feel that we must sacrifice our honor and respect for our laws because something is difficult?
As for the gender matter, the hilarity that will ensue as people begin to understand that there are NOT simply two genders, as defined by one’s chromosomes. There are XX, XY, XXY, XYY, etc...
Also, the gender assignment sometimes made is often driven by ease of surgery or appearance, rather than a carefully made evaluation of chromosomes and hormones, so that mess will spin out of control too.
Why didn't immigration reform get done in the last year and a half?
ReplyDeleteRemember when Fergus said he would be the best president for the LGBT community?
ReplyDeleteHe does know what the T stands for, right?

"To have the President say that he will not allow a person to file an appeal, in accordance with our laws, is about as far from the Republican ethos that you profess."
ReplyDeleteClarify, please? How does this in any way affect those "migrants" who would cross our border illegally? I mean, other than than the fact that they all want to claim "Asylum" in order to get across the border and then disappear....
And, again, how many are you gonna feed and house personally?
And, again (again), as well, how does defining gender in any way affect the legal protections that gay people have? How is one connected to the other? Or is it just scaremongering?
Refugees CANNOT cross our border illegally.
ReplyDelete>>And, again (again), as well, how does defining gender in any way affect the legal protections that gay people have? How is one connected to the other? Or is it just scaremongering?
ReplyDeleteOther than it barely does not. But hey you get rid of the trans then go for the queer perverts. they win with trans and the gay is next. They have been at this for many decades and I used to have a copy of their playbook for how a "good Christian" can fight the evil and perversion by learning how to work inside government at all levels and branches.
What your missing is the Christian Taliban is out for:
Gender and all sexuality against deemed evil by the bible (theirs).
Abortion.
Birth control.
Its less than 50 years and in a few cases even less that laws concerning
CRIMES AGAINST CHASTITY, MORALITY, DECENCY AND GOOD ORDER laws were struck
down. I think that was around '72 in Ma.
I'm old enough to remember Stonewall, Bill Baird, Roe Vs wade, Griswald Vs CT, Loving vs Virginia, and others in the sense that I remember the times leading
up to those events. If you do not believe for one damn second that those
can't be reversed your both missing the point and likely not paying attention.
If they win on any everyones' personal privacy and liberty is compromised further.
Eck!
B., have you read his statements? Can you point to any facts he hasn’t folded, spindles and mutilated? Can he prove any of his outrageous distortions, the latest being “Middle-Easterners” hidden in the “mob”. Have you see the facts on the crimes inflicted on individuals and small groups traveling north in Central America and Mexico, and doesn’t that make you understand why a larger group would organize?
ReplyDelete1) They cannot cross in accordance with our laws if the President issues a blanket prohibition from accepting their information or requests, illegally, I might add.
2) Why do you assume they all wish to cross illegally? You have ESP? Or your judgement is that it is impossible that any of them have a valid reason? If so, why do we deny them?
3) My taxes pay the United States Government to enforce the laws, not make sweeping, denouncements and illegal directives. Perhaps Donnie should have go some more funding to avoid those situations he is driving with his reckless statements, his aid cuts and such. When you change your policy and make it impossible for people to escape violence in a legal manner, what did he think they’d do?
4) If the Republicans were that worried about this, they have had almost two years to establish a holding system that meets Constitutional muster and to adjust the legal process and staff up a court system to quickly process these border issues. They have focused on destroying everything and anything President Obama did instead.
5) Since the majority of States have laws on the books that discriminate against anyone not White, male and heretosexual, any move to reduce definitions like this is clearly an attempt to emasculate certain rulings and laws and by doing so enable further restrictions.

ReplyDeleteAccording to Univision, he's right:

Then again, one still has to wonder who is paying for all these people....food, water, the rafts they used to cross the river, etc. Must be those terrible rethuglikanz right?
B., you addressed one item, and them resorted to strawmen.
ReplyDeleteOh, and B., noted Liberal news source Fox News has debunked the claim you made with the Univision link.
