Your Sunday Morning Jet Noise

A Falcon 50:

One of these puppies crashed in South Carolina last week.

  1. Interesting crash, made me look up airport data to figure why the nose was so askew versus the main body section. I can’t understand why an EMAS system was installed on Rwy 1 but not 19. The runoff area/distance is similar, but 1’s terminates into a road where 19’s terminates into a sharp drop off that covers a short distance to a road. I guess the nose took the hit going over the edge and remained attached and in front as it slide to the road.

Landing also shouldn’t have been the issue, the 50 looks marginal (at best) for a full seats/full departure of KGMU (4,700 ft at sea level versus 5,393 available)...but they only had 4 on board, 2 crew and 2 pax. They spec the 50 at a mere 2,150 ft to land, at sea level, so something seems to have gone badly wrong.
