Being trapped in a sub at the bottom has to be a bubblehead's worst nightmare. The TR-1700 class has a test depth of 300 meters, which, as it's a German design, implies a crush depth of 600 meters. The SRDRS resportedly can go that deep.

The one thing I cannot find is the estimated endurance in case of an emergency, assuming all air tanks are full and machinery is /functional. The Argentinean Navy says no worries on supplies, but I wonder.
ReplyDeleteAir tanks are likely full. CO2 absorbent in non-nukes is the absolute limit.
ReplyDeleteCold is likely if an initial casualty was survived. The most common serious casualty is a battery explosion. Flooding is a frequent result.
Finding the vessel in time is absolutely essential.
I hope they surface alive and well soon.

I'm guessing that the P-8s are going to seed the likely areas with passive sonobuoys and then listen for any noise. Hopefully the submariners on that boat will have anticipated that and are making noises.
