One of Argentina's Submarines is Missing

The sub may have sent some satellite comm signals. But nobody is too sure where it is.

The U.S. Navy is sending SRDRSs to Argentina.

Being trapped in a sub at the bottom has to be a bubblehead's worst nightmare. The TR-1700 class has a test depth of 300 meters, which, as it's a German design, implies a crush depth of 600 meters. The SRDRS resportedly can go that deep.

If the sub can be found in time.

  1. The one thing I cannot find is the estimated endurance in case of an emergency, assuming all air tanks are full and machinery is /functional. The Argentinean Navy says no worries on supplies, but I wonder.

  2. Air tanks are likely full. CO2 absorbent in non-nukes is the absolute limit.
Cold is likely if an initial casualty was survived. The most common serious casualty is a battery explosion. Flooding is a frequent result.
Finding the vessel in time is absolutely essential.
I hope they surface alive and well soon.

  3. I've been following this story since the beginning. A lot of folks are working to find that boat. Lots of rumors floating around.

She needs to be found and PDQ.

    Praying.

  4. I'm guessing that the P-8s are going to seed the likely areas with passive sonobuoys and then listen for any noise. Hopefully the submariners on that boat will have anticipated that and are making noises.

  5. CNN reports a possible detection of sound consistent with tools pounding on the hull.

  6. Argentine Navy reports an absolute oxygen endurance of 7 days. Unknown how much of that may have been used before/during “incident”. Reports of battery issues too.

  7. Deadstick, I never put much stock in initial reports.

  8. Sounds now described as from a "biological source" and could not be matched to any code.
