Bill O'Reilly weighed in on the Sunday night attack in Las Vegas, calling the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history "the price of freedom" in a message posted to his official site Monday.Jeebus. Timing, Bill, timing.
In the note, O'Reilly said that gun control regulations "will not stop psychopaths from harming people."
He added, "Public safety demands logical gun laws but the issue is so polarizing and emotional that little will be accomplished as there is no common ground."
On the other side of the coin, saying "Clinton would have won if only non-gun owners voted" this has to be one of the stupidest things around. If only libertarians had voted, Jill Stein would have won. If only owners of coal mines had voted... you get the picture.
I'm not going to plow the same ground that I did a few years back. Go read this posts, #1, #2, #3, and #4, if you want.
Yeah, everyone deserves to be represented in the government. Even those whose opinions and ideas I believe to be damaging to the republic. Even me.
ReplyDeleteIf they want to address any "if they would have voted" issues, maybe start with the 32% who didn't bother to vote at all?
And one more time, with feeling: prohibition doesn't work.
You want to decrease the death toll from gun violence? You're gonna have to address some harder issues than "thou shalt not" and no-one has any solid answers as of right now.
Perhaps not making each asswipe automatically famous would be a good first step, but that gets into media and first amendment issues, so ???
But calling it the price of freedom is just obnoxious. Um, hello? Those are actual people with actual critical injuries, and they perhaps have their own opinions on freedom about now.
At least he wasn't (that I know of) pulling the "This is not the time for a discussion of guns" because by that logic, there will never be a time, and if we can't talk about it, we're not really adults, are we?

My contender for genius statement about this is the attendee who professed strong Second Amendment views and was disturbed, during the event, by the lack of return fire!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm no marksman or highly experienced shooter, but even I know that:
A) Shooting a carry pistol at a window 500 yards away is pointless.
B) I doubt anyone there could have accurately calculated the correct hold point for a 500+ yard shot at a target point 320+ feet above them.
C) Sweet Jesus, imagine the carnage if everyone whipped out a pistol and cranked off a couple of mags full at the hotel!
D) Bullets that miss, don't disappear, unlike what Hollywood shows.
