But hey, if you're a rich politician, you can get other people to pay to defend your sorry ass.
U.S. President* Donald Trump is using money donated to his re-election campaign and the Republican National Committee to pay for his lawyers in the probe of alleged Russian interference in the U.S. election, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.Pretty nice that the RNC has a "Treason Defense Fund" that Trump can tap into.
Following Reuters exclusive report on Tuesday, CNN reported that the Republican National Committee paid in August more than $230,000 to cover some of Trump’s legal fees related to the probe. ... Trump would be the first U.S. president in the modern campaign finance era to use such funds to cover the costs of responding to a criminal probe, said election law experts.
When asked on TV last night if that was even legal, former US Attorney Barbara McQuade said that it probably fell into the "lawful but awful" category.

Asset forfeiture for pot dealers so they can't afford an attorney, but a legal treason slush fund for a successful paid Kremlin plant and Russian intelligence asset. Treason paid for by the party of Eisenhower and Reagan. Strange and dangerous days.
ReplyDeleteThere is no evidence the emperor's megalomania ever abates after supreme power, they only get more cruel, capricious, greedy, incestuous, disloyal, paranoid and isolated until their delusional acts start to hurt the empire's business-as-usual. Then the Senate or Praetorian Guard forces their suicide or stabs them multiple times at the foot of Pompey's statue, not saying that's what's going to happen in this treason trial. Maybe the the entire crime cartel can be banished, if not to Elba or St. Helena, then perhaps to Israel or Slovenia, as in Roman times.
