The BBC has revealed the new thirteenth - and as somewhat expected - the first female Doctor Who, actor Jodi Whittaker (Attack the Block).I'm sure, without doing any looking, that conservative Dr. Who fans are, right now, losing their shit over the idea that the newest Dr. Who is a woman.
“I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey, with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet,” Whittaker said in the anticipated Sunday announcement. “It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”
To which I say: Get a grip. It's a goddamned television show. If you don't like it, watch something else. There are, after all, only about a pasta-bazillion channels out there these days.
Yep, some of the kids on a gaming server I help moderate were griping about a woman being the doctor. These are young teens, and already closed minded on the subject.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the same ones who got butthurt over the women-only performance of Wonder Woman...
ReplyDeleteAs I understand it, the Doctor is an alien who takes human form. So the argument is about the particular meat-sack that the alien has selected?
ReplyDeleteThe Doctor is an alien, with two hearts, and no one has ever addressed if there are sexes within his race.
ReplyDelete...and inevitably, Murdoch's papers have published nude pictures of the new Doctor.
ReplyDeleteI am almost as annoyed by those posting how excited !!! they are for the upcoming season. The story quality had better remain high, and I am always in favor of (attractive) ladies on the screen, but I'm not excited.
ReplyDeleteBest tweet goes to Merriam-Webster:
ReplyDelete'Doctor' has no gender in English
Al will be well if the new Doctor says this at least one time, "Look! I've got etheric beam locators!".
