A Mississippi man received a 49-year prison sentence Monday for the first-ever conviction on federal hate crime charges arising from the killing of a transgender woman. ... The case, watched nationally amid concerns transgender women are particularly vulnerable to violence, drew comment from U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. That's not what I would have expected from Sessions, not by a long shot.
"Today's sentencing reflects the importance of holding individuals accountable when they commit violent acts against transgender individuals," Sessions said in a statement. "The Justice Department will continue its efforts to vindicate the rights of those individuals who are affected by bias motivated crimes."
I'll be more impressed when the DoJ, under Sessions, brings a similar case. But this is, at least, something.
Why? He's a prosecutor. He does follow the law, even when he may not agree with it.
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't ever shown anything less. IT is your unreasoned hatred him which colors your view. He may well be a racist or a bigot, I don't know (and neither do you),but he does follow the laws and he does what is right.
First I've heard that taking bribes from representatives of a foreign not necessarily friendly government is "follow the law". It in fact violates both the Trading With The Enemy and Alien and Sedition Acts. And he has made it double-damn clear he is indeed a racist, right down to his kind words for the Klan, so we do know: he is in fact a racist and a bigot.
ReplyDeleteNo hatred - could give a rat's patottee - just a statement of fact, boiled down to ones and zeros, brass tacks, balls on a brass monkey.
Taking Bribes? Really? Got something besides DNC innuendo?
ReplyDelete'Cause I haven't seen anything else.
