Now Assemble the Right-Wing Rationalization Squad on the Fright Deck

President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday he has picked ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be secretary of state, calling him "among the most accomplished business leaders and international deal makers in the world."
I'm sure they'll happily tell everyone how choosing the CEO of the biggest of Big Oil will be good for the paycheck-earners of this country.

Trump isn't draining the swamp. He's no more than another Republican who is determined to make sure that the top 0.1% gets richer and richer, while everyone else gets poorer and poorer and those in the future are stuck with the bill. You birds on the Right thought that you were getting a populist, but you got just another corporate statist.

Fooled you pretty good, he did.

(Putin's got the puck, he's in the lane, he shoots, he scores!)

And yes, fuck you, DNC.

  1. The only thing Trump plans to drain is the US Treasury to the sound of clap-clap-clap by conservative dupes.

  2. Mrs. JP, Popeye the cat and I are in a terrible way this month. I’ve made an urgent appeal at Welcome Back to Pottersville for assistance and I’ve also included a special book gift offer for those who chip in beyond a certain amount. But the bottom line is the last thing we need to worry about this holiday season is eviction.

  3. Perhaps Imagine Dragons got it right with their song "Demons":

    When the days are cold
    And the cards all fold
    And the saints we see
    Are all made of gold

    When your dreams all fail
    And the ones we hail
    Are the worst of all
    And the blood's run stale

    I wanna hide the truth
    I wanna shelter you
    But with the beast inside
    There's nowhere we can hide

    No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
    This is my kingdom come
    This is my kingdom come

Oh, the kingdom of those who will tolerate a lot, as long as they have more than that upitty (insert minority of choice here) down the road, is certainly coming now!

  4. Wait and see. Might be you are right, likely not (at least we are likely to have a competent SecState this time, instead a a n appointed buddy who likely paid his way there).

Sometimes you put your own motives out there on folks who don't deserve it. Could be (or maybe not?) that this is one of those times.

If you were fair monded, you'd give this guy (and all the others) the same fair shake you gave barry and his picks.

But that would require a fair mind. You are smart enough, can you be unbiased enough?

  5. I was talking to a young Republican, back in October, when he gave me the right-wing talking point about how Clinton hadn't done anything as Secretary of State. So I pressed him a bit on what a good S of S does. Turned out he didn't know. Apparently Fox News is kind of light on details.

So, B, same challenge. Let's see your cards. Who was the last competent Secretary of State, and what makes you say that about him/her? (Fair warning: I shall weigh your answer against nuclear non-proliferation and the transition to a low-carbon economy, the signature issues of the last two Secretaries.)

  6. Condi Rice, then before her, Madeline Albright....Before that, Cyrus Vance.

They were all able to speak to leaders, and implement foreign policy. They DID THEIR JOBS, rather than do photo ops and junkets...they communicated the views and policies of the US, and to a lesser amount negotiated with the world leaders from a position of strength..... The rest of the time, they stayed silent. They weren't anything more than implementers of the President's policy, and they didn't taint themselves with other views nor other politics.

They weren't political has-beens shuffled off to the SecState jobs to get them out of the way of the current president or as a reward for being a good party hack.

  7. That's all you've got? This confirms my suspicion: You can't name a single issue. Even though you could read the last SoS's e-mail archives, you have no idea what a Secretary of State does.

The saddest part is that you're about even with the President-Elect.

  8. Why don't you explain it to me off the comment section here? You can find my email at my blog page.
What, exactly, would you like me to explain to you? Ask me via Email please.
I'm trying not to clog the comment section of a blog that isn't mine.
