After Today, Shall We All Join Reince Priebus in the Bunker?

I hope he's stocked it with plenty of liquor.
Donald Trump appears poised for sweeping victories on “Super Tuesday” that would effectively anoint him the Republicans’ presumptive nominee
And
The Bernie Sanders campaign is bracing for a difficult national debut across the 11 states that vote for a Democratic presidential nominee on Tuesday
Trump vs. Clinton. By Grabthar's hammer, those are our choices? There are roughly 140 million Americans qualified to be president (35 or older and naturally-born citizens) and these two chuckleheads are whom we get as choices? A crypto-fascist/racist who kept a book of Adolph Hitler's speeches by his bed or the pristine personification of a machine politician? That's the best we can do as a nation?

It's too early in the morning to even think about that. But if you follow politics and you can get through this electoral cycle without becoming a raging alcoholic, bully for you.

  2. I think I'd vote for a cannibal before I'd vote for Trump, (or abstain from voting.)

The one redeeming thing I can think of about Trump is, he may not have yet realized he can get richer from starting wars.

  3. I guess it's a good thing my alcoholic days are way in the past. I might be tempted to start early.

  4. I'm for a big Super Tuesday win for Trump. I suspect that a primary win for Donald is a guaranteed loss for Republicans in the general elections. Figure it this way:

Something like 30 percent of the voting population are registered Republicans. If Trump gets 50 percent of the Super Tuesday Republican vote, that gives him half of 30 percent — or 15 percent — of voters. Even assuming he doubles that by November, he'll lose to the Democratic candidate 60-40. It'll be like the Bubonic Plague roaring through medieval Europe. Hearse drivers will be double-parked Republican country club gates crying, "Bring out your dead."

With any luck, Trump will also take down a few Republican Senators and Congressmen on his way to hell.

    Yours very crankily,

  5. Sorry for the arithmetical error above. If Trump doubles his votes by election day, he'll lose to the Democratic candidate 70-30, not 60-40.

  6. I would not be so confident. When Trump announced his candidacy, almost everyone took him for a self-promoting buffoon whose campaign would wilt as soon as the voting started.

Well, they were right about the first part. Not so much on the second.

Now, he's a day or so away from having a nearly- unstoppable path to the nomination.

Trump has done everything despicable short of donning a pair of jackboots and a black-leather trenchcoat and then giving the fascist salute. And none of it has stuck to him, so far.

    Don't underestimate him, NYC.

  7. He's going to tear Hillary or Bernie apart.

He's going to call her out for being a liar and putting American Intelligence secrets at risk. Then he'll tell her to get a nice new pantsuit for her perp walk when his AG indicts her.

If he's up against crazy Uncle Free Stuff, he'll point out Bernie's stunning record of personal accomplishment, which basically consists of nothing of value outside of politics in a toy state with a total population smaller than most American medium sized cities.

I don't like Trump, but maybe President Trump will finally be enough for people to see the wisdom in a smaller Federal government.

  8. "A smaller federal government" sounds all catchy and everything, but here where I come from (the erstwhile Republic of Texas) that translates into "a bigger state government" in relative terms, where the legislators can be, and are, bought at 1/3 the price of the federals and are for the most part howling ignorami and/or religious bizarros. No, thanks.

  9. where the legislators can be, and are, bought at 1/3 the price of the federals

Which was always the unspoken "promise" of Reaganite "small government" worship.

It's always cute hearing people like anon here complain about the federal government. The scale of the central government is greater, true, but for real day-in, day-out thuggishness and cronyism, state and local government is where the action is.

  10. While neither is a GOOD choice, The Hildebeast would be the bad choice.

But you are right, a megalomaniac, or pscycho....

Trump scares me less than Bernie or Hillary.....but not by much less and in a different way.....

  11. The farther a level of government is from the citizen the less influence it should have over the citizen's life and affairs.

Strong central government allows for more corruption. State politicians might be bought for a third the price, but there are 50-100 of the for each national politician. Take this to a local level and local politicians are even cheaper maybe 1/20th the price, but there are hundreds for each Federal congressman. So, it's much cheaper or cost efficient to buy federal politicians.

And when things go really badly on the local side, you know where you can find them.
