Score for Easter- Bangity

I committed to bring bread to Easter dinner. Normally, I bake my own bread for things such as that, but the dough was rising very slowly. I put the bowl on a heating pad, but out of caution that it wasn't going to turn out, I went to the store to buy a loaf of their bakery bread.

And I came away with this:

I'd not seen these in the store for ages. I bought one, obviously. The price worked out to five cents a round. Hard to beat that.

Anyway, the dough finally rose enough. It came out fine.

  1. Simple trick for positive rising:

Place baking dish in bottom of oven. Leave oven off. Heat pot of water to a boil. Pour water in dish. Place bowl of dough in oven. Close door.

When you come back, you will be amazed at how warm it is in the oven as well as how humid. It's like fertilizer for dough. And other than boiling the water, no energy expended—by that I mean you didn't have to light off the oven.

I watched Julia toss a cup of water straight into the bottom of an oven on a low heat. Works the same way as above, except the heat is in the oven—probably around 200°. My oven doesn't go any lower, so I like the baking dish/boiling water trick better.
