Would You Vote For a Catholic Bishop for President?

I bet a lot of people wouldn't. There would be concerns about whether a bishop would be serving the interests of the American people or serving the interests of his church. If a tenet of the Constitution conflicted with a tenet of church doctrine, it would be a concern which he would follow.

So why is it that the GOP is so eager to line up behind a bishop of a different church?
First as bishop of his own congregation, and later as Boston "stake president," overseeing a region akin to a Roman Catholic diocese, [Mitt Romney] operated as clergyman, organization man and defender of the faith, guiding the church through a period of rapid growth.
There is more here. Romney wasn't just your average Mormon, he was what is known as a "Big Mo", a heavy-duty leader in the church. So besides the point that Romney will change his beliefs to whatever it takes to prevail in an election, it is worth asking to whom does he owe his loyalty.

    I recall some people making a fuss about JFK being a Catholic at the time. Baffled me.

    Charles, I think there is a bit of a difference between being a believer in a faith and being a senior official in that faith's hierarchy/management.

    Romney was not just a "go to meetin' Mormon," he was the equivalent of a Catholic bishop.

    (And no, I'm not about to vote for an office of any religion for political office, including my own faith.)

    One wag I read suggested that Catholics skip the middle man and put lube and wet wipes in the collection plate.
