Quote of the Day

Which this time is really from QOTD:
A good prince will tax as lightly as possible those commodities which are used by the poorest members of society: grain, bread, beer, wine, clothing, and all other staples without which human life could not exist. - Desiderius Erasmus, 1466- 1536
By that analysis, the people pushing the UnFairTax, a 30% Federal sales tax on everything (other than shit bought from second-hand stores) and the Koch Brothers latest puppet, Herman Cain, with his 9% Federal sales tax (ditto on what gets taxed), are some of the evilest asshats walking around.

  1. Well... it is a budgetary trick to enact their political goals. You tell people that they can pay lower taxes and life will get better. Then when the low taxes lead to budget shortfalls, you say "sorry, we're going to have to close your kids' public school, we're not going to be able to enforce any of those environmental laws so better buy a water filter to be safe, and good luck if you need any government service because we're laying off half of the people at every government office and slashing program budgets. But at least you saved $50 on your tax bill this year!"
