MANPADS in Afghanistan

The Taliban have used man-portable surface to air missiles to shoot down at least one helicopter. This comes from a Wikileaks document dump to the NY Times, Der Spiegel and the Guardian.

One piece that is no surprise to anyone who has paid any attention to that war is that Pakistan is playing off both sides.

  1. Please remind me why we're the fuck there. Our troops are dieing for what reason? Oh yeah, fight them there so we don't have to fight them here.
That will be the slogan on the tombstone of the U.S.A. may it rest in peace.

  2. Tim,

Corporate Greed. War always has a rich man's needs in mind.

  3. I was wondering when the Taliban would get ahold of some of the vast stores of contraband ex-Soviet MANPADS that are all over the place on the world market. The Soviet stuff is crap that can't lock on to our choppers unless aimed directly at the engine exhaust from immediately behind the chopper but even crap can give you a bad day if you're not expecting it.

  4. I thought maybe the war would end when the Democrats took over, but it sounds like they aren't any better. Too bad we don't have anyone who actually gives a shit about the country in either party.
