And the cops tased a kid who was running on a baseball field? Really? That's a reasonable justification to taser someone?
That cop should be doing jail time.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
I recall the justification for police officers being issued tazers was that they would be "the last resort before lethal force." The idea was that they were to be used (in most circumstances) as the last alternative to drawing an actual weapon.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that, in many cases, they've now become the first thing an officer reaches for.
(I think the kid in Philly had more to do with Officer Bagadonuts not really being able to chase him down without throwing an MI. Not that that excuses him.)
My recollection is the same with regard to how tasers were marketed.
ReplyDeleteNow they are being used as a compliance/torture device.
When the Tasers were first issued, the police that were authorized to carry them had to be tazed themselves to experience what they might have to inflict on another person. Are the police still required to be tazed to qualify to be armed with a Taser?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question. I don't know the answer to it.
