Rangel is of the type of politicians that permitted lobbyists and goons like Abramoff to operate in the shadows.

Yeah, but those old-time pols got shit done, they engaged in what old-time machine politicians called "honest corruption", i.e., they skimmed some dough off the side, but they delivered for their constituents. The new-style corrupt pols... meh. All they deliver for their constituents is pain.
