"Government Spending Does Not Create a Single Job"
Since government spending creates no jobs, a point which Shelby has stated, one has to wonder why he is so interested in seeing a foreign corporation get a huge defense contract.

Economist Brad Delong scratched his head, baffled, and wondered what Shelby was babbling about -- there is not a single school of economic thought, anywhere, that holds that government spending doesn't create jobs when there is 10% unemployment, even the Austrian school of economics so beloved of the Glibertarians admits that government spending creates jobs, the Austrians simply insist that the jobs created are less productive than private-sector jobs would be due to their beloved "adjustment" theory (which holds that economic problems are caused by resources in the economy being misallocated, and an "adjustment" involving liquidation of the misallocated resources is necessary before the economy can start moving again).
ReplyDeleteThen Paul Krugman whacked Brad over the head with a rolled-up newspaper and said "Idiot! You're looking for logic and sense where there is none!" and Brad's head quit smoking looking for whatever economic theory that Shelby was using, and realized: Hey, this dude is a partisan hypocrite deliberately obstructing attempts to add jobs to the economy in order to run ads in October claiming that Democrats have done nothing to add jobs to the economy. It's all about being the Party of No, not about economics. Duh. At that point Brad apologized for thinking there might conceivably have been some sort of economic theory behind what Shelby and the Party of No are spouting, and went off and started doing something more productive than overheating his brain trying to find logic where there is none.

Oh, I know. I'm in the "point at the retarded hypocrites and make fun of them" ilk.
ReplyDeleteI am also that Shelby is getting a campaign "contribution" for his efforts. Funny though, there always seems to be money for bombs.
ReplyDeleteAh, bugger Shelby.
ReplyDeleteFiguratively speaking.
Ahm, Jbrock, I think I need brain bleach after reading your last comment. That is *not* an image I wanted in my head leading into lunchtime ;).
