Ted Stevens is Off the Hook

The Justice Department has asked that the conviction be set aside and the indictment dismissed. The reason is the blatant misconduct of the prosecutors.

Another job well done by the Justice Department under the Chimperor. What I am not clear on is whether it was a matter of plain incompetence or active sabotage of the case. Given that Rove salted the Justice Department with right-wing ideologues who had law degrees from some of the worst schools in the nation, either choice may be valid.

  1. Did you hear anything about why they've apparently decided not to retry him?

  2. They're dismissing the indictment, too, so I take that as a pretty solid sign that Ted is off the hook.

  3. Over at FireDogLake, Christy wrote today that this decision means Stevens' sentencing hearing will be canceled, so he's off the hook. She's a former prosecutor, so I'm guessing she'll turn out to be right. ;)
