Uncovering the Fakes
No doubt the technology of fakery will try to keep up.
My dad used to tell me that reading Scientific American (or a similar magazine) was one of the more mentally stimulating exercises, for each issue contained articles that one had to really think about in order to have a chance of understanding the articles. I think he was on to something.
You know that sometimes annoying thing that co-workers do when they bring in the fundraising sheets for their kids' projects? A few years ago, a co-worker was flogging magazine subscriptions. The only magazine on the list that appeared even remotely interesting was Scientific American, so I subscribed to it. I've been subscribing now for the last few years. I don't know if it makes me any smarter, though. That's probably a lost cause.
