Yeah, Brian at Why Now? covered this one a week or so ago. He lives in Florida, and notes that this has wrecked havoc with Florida tourism. I will also point out that it has wrecked havoc with tourism in the Death Valley and Grand Canyon too. I have some aquaintances who run a hotel in the Death Valley area. Usually they're full all summer with German tourists. This year... the Germans all stayed away. It just about killed them. They had to fire 1/4th of their staff, cut their room rates in half to attract people who would normally stay in cheaper outlying hotels in Beatty and Ridgecrest, and a bunch of us had to kick in and take care of some things for them that they just didn't have the money to take care of, like fixing their water aquaduct and things like that. But we can't do that forever and there's no substitute for those tourist dollars that the Busheviks are keeping out with their Gestapo tactics because Americans are too sane to go to Death Valley in the summertime... it's always been a German thing. No Germans = empty rooms all summer long = tough times. Tough, tough times.

ReplyDeleteIt's probably playing havoc with every part of the country which benefited from foreign tourism. The TSA goons have all of the friendliness and good humor of East German border guards.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Germans still have fond memories (hah!) of East German border guards. Thus probably why they're staying away in droves. They done seen that shit once, and don't see any reason to see it again.
