Darwin Award Nominee

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP)-- Police say a man who was trying to entertain his family by putting a penny on the tracks has died after being struck by a train in Greenwich.

When I was a kid, this was a common thing to do. But back in the day, the only elevated platforms at railroad stations were in big cities. Nowadays, almost all of the platforms in that are elevated and elevated platforms went in on the New Haven Line in the early 1970s. So this guy hopped down from the platform to put his penny on the rails and he didn't make it back.

That had to be a horrific thing for his family to watch, but this was pretty high up in the category of "Die; Stupid Way to".
