Tab Clearing; Guns & Satan Edition

A group of Satanists wants to put up a statue on the grounds of the Oklahoma Capitol.
A New York-based satanic group has made a hell of a request.

The Satanic Temple unveiled designs Monday for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan it wants to put at the Oklahoma state Capitol, where a Ten Commandments monument was placed in 2012. The group formally submitted its application to a panel that oversees the Capitol grounds, including an artist’s rendering that depicts Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that’s often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.
I suspect that Oklahoma will end up removing the Ten Commanderments monument. They likely can't deny the request without running afoul of the First Amendment.

Second up, Smith & Wesson is offering an L-frame .44 Magnum, the Model 69. It's $100 cheaper and a quarter-pound lighter than a similarly sized Model 629.

You may have noted that both the Model 69 and the Model 66 have a barrel length of 4.25". Word is that is to comply with Canadian law, which prohibits handguns with barrels shorter than 105mm, or 4.134".

  1. I can imagine trying to pull this gun back down to sightline after the first shot. Better damn well hope the first round is a hit and you only have one bad guy.

  2. I'm thinking that most shooters will use .44 Specials, which'll make this thing essentially a 696 with a longer barrel.

  3. Hadn't thought about the barrel length, good point!

They can so deny the request. Maybe not legally, but who cares about that in Oklahoma? They've already run afoul of the Establishment of Religion clause. Their "reasoning" might range from, "Satanism isn't a real religion," to "Satanism isn't Christian."

This could be a giant, stupid case that goes all the way to the Supreme Court.

  5. NFO, the bad thing is that the new Model 66 probably won't fit into the holsters that I have for my 4" Model 10s.

So I'll have to look for a used one.

  6. They did deny the request, claiming that they now have too many monuments on the Capital Grounds so are putting a moratorium on putting any more monuments there. Which has nothing to do with Satan, and just a case of lack of space for more monuments, that's all, right?

Some Federal judge is going to have to use duct tape over his mouth to keep from giggling out loud in court when the State of Oklahoma tries out that reasoning on him, LOL!
