And in the Morning

The most numerous type of aircraft in the air is the Canadair CRJ-200, followed by 747s finishing up the red-eye flights. Fedex's heavy freighters are en-route to the local distribution airports from their main hub at Memphis.

  1. Addicted much?

I'm resisting. Are the displayed tracks just flight plans, or are they recorded from ATC radar? If so, it must be fun for VFR pilots to check back later and see how straight they were.

  2. I haven't been blogging much about flying recently, so deal. :)

The tracking data is 5 minutes old, so it is coming from ATC. It is pretty much limited to IFR flights, though sometimes VFR flights who are using flight-following will show up.

  3. The tracks are radar tracks, yes. Like EBM says, if a VFR is put "into the system" the track will show up. Altitude too, if you look at the "track log".

If IFR, the flight plan is shown as well, but cryptically ( the "Route" ).
