Your Sunday Morning Prop Noise

The mighty B-17:



In "Masters of the Air", they show the crews starting #1 first. Maybe they did, but a guy who flew them a lot said they started an inboard engine first because they were closest to the aircraft's battery. Once an engine was started and run up enough to produce power on its generator, it was easier to start the others.

    That was Memphis belle, note are for Sally B is differnt.

  2. Yep, Memphis Belle. As a retired aviator, yes, we always started the inboards first. Depending on the situation, we might not start the outboards until we were at the hold short.
