Fergus' obsession with fossil fuel only energy is ceding the renewable space to China. His adventure in Venezuela requires oil prices above the high-ish break even cost of dirty Venezuelan oil and its decrepit infrastructure.
ReplyDeleteCheap and widely available renewables exert a downward pressure on the price of oil. This seems to be the hand China is playing. How they deal with their own interests in Venezuela remains to be seen, but I've read that they are basically smuggling rare-earth minerals out of Venezuela through Colombia.
