But what happened was that the shooter told his dad, who persuaded him to turn himself in, and drove him to the cop shop to do just that.

The inept FBI under Patel and Bongino has no say in the case, as it is being charged at the state level, and the only way they get a bite at that particular apple is if it can be charged as a hate crime, which is federal. Thus all the official speculation about trans involvement.
