A decade ago, Jessie McGrath began a physical transition to make her body match her gender identity. More recently, she underwent a political transformation.
A veteran, NRA member and lifelong Republican, McGrath stuck with her political leanings even after starting gender reassignment surgeries in 2014 at the age of 53. Then Donald Trump and his opposition to gender reassignment surgery changed her mind.
Her situation is a living example of Pastor Martin Niemöller's poem about Nazism.
First they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew
Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Catholics And I did not speak out because I was not a Catholic
Then they came for me And by that time there was no one left to speak out for me.
I'm happy for her that she has found peace in her life. It's a story that I've heard/read numerous times, far more than the bullshit and hate the far Right spreads around. But yeah, it is a little worthy of mention that Trump's bigotry didn't seem to bother her until it became personal.
It still doesn't seem to bother Caitlyn the Quisling.

Stirring hate for the less than 1% of the population and then the 10% of that.
ReplyDeleteHow is that done.... With lies, propaganda.
Who's next...
Eck!
The people who vote for The Leopards Eat You Face Party are always surprised when Leopards Eat Their Face.
ReplyDeleteEck, he is following Hitler’s playbook.
ReplyDeleteNebris, exactly right.
Yes, I agree. The hitler playbook was pick a minority group that
ReplyDeletehad some form hate or bigotry already there. He usually went
for the group that could least fight back. If they tried to resist
the tools of government were used to remove that ability usually
by criminalizing activities. That was not always official, and used "declarations" instead of actual laws. What went on behind the
scenes were often described as disappearances.
By conflating things with the mask of religion then it becomes easy
to stir hate for what "their" so called religion may consider sinful and
prohibited. That is Christian nationalism (current name) and one of
the key elements of fascism.
The non direct government tools were more often gobbels work,
propaganda, the big lie(s), and the echo chamber to keep it going.
So lots of ways to stir hate and drive the sheeple toward a goal.
