Blowing a Russian A-50 AWACS Out of the Sky
The reportage I've seen differs as to numbers, but they all hold that the Russians have only a handful of operational A-50s. So it's doubtful that the Russian Air Force is going to risk any more of them.
And its accompanying Il-22M may be a writeoff, as well.

COMMENT MODERATION IS IN EFFECT UFN. This means that if you are an insulting dick, nobody will ever see it.
Apparently not many that know how to fly them too.

The large flight crews represent many years of expensive experience, making such losses even more significant.

The pilots are bus drivers. The expensive and lengthy training is for the operators of the radar and other sensors and for the controllers who manage and communicate with the fighters and attack aircraft.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was an Il-20M and not a Il-22M that was also hit…or perhaps an Il-20PP, since that’s a jammer.
ReplyDeleteAnd unlike the innocent civilians on the MH17 in 2014, the personnel on the A-50 saw this coming and knew their doom.
