Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia announced Thursday that he won’t seek reelection in 2024, giving Republicans a prime opportunity to pick up a seat in the heavily GOP state.
Some Democratic officials are also concerned that Manchin’s announcement frees him to pursue a third-party presidential bid that could ultimately undermine President Joe Biden’s reelection. The 76-year-old Manchin has raised the possibility of a presidential bid in the past, and he made direct reference to national ambitions in the retirement video he posted on social media Thursday.
“What I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together,” Manchin said.
First off, he knows that the chances of him retaining his seat in 2024 are slim.
Second, one has to ask what adding a third old geezer to the mix brings to the contest. Americans are already less than happy that the choice now is between an 80 year-old incumbent and a 77 year-old insurrectionist.
But Third, and most important, any serious third party move by Manchin will be heavily funded by right-wing businessmen who have the clear-eyed agenda of returning the TOFF to power. They are nothing but the descendants of the business class that were trying to overthrow the government in the 1930s. Manchin will play the same role of Ross Perot in 1992 and Ralph Nader in 2000: Sucking enough votes from the incumbent candidate so the challenger wins.
Manchin is either seriously narcissistic to believe that he has anything resembling a chance of winning the presidency or he is fully aware that he would be nothing more than a sock puppet of the TOFF. So there is probably some cabinet-level job he has his eye on, because Manchin does nothing that doesn't benefit him or his family.
Meanwhile, MAGA terrorists are working to undermine elections.
Authorities were hunting Thursday for whoever sent suspicious letters — including some containing fentanyl — to elections offices in at least five states this week, delaying the counting of ballots in some local races in the latest instance of threats faced by election workers around the country.
...
Pierce County Auditor Linda Farmer released images of the envelope and letter her office received. The letter contained a warning about the vulnerability of “ballot drops” and read: “End elections now. Stop giving power to the right that they don’t have. We are in charge now and there is no more need for them.”
Ballot drop boxes and early voting are bugaboos of the Right; the TOFF has ranted and railed about them for years. The letters were likely clumsy attempts to deflect suspicion from those who most likely did it.
"Ballot drop boxes and early voting are bugaboos of the Right"
ReplyDeleteBecause they, like a lack of Voter ID, facilitate cheating and voter fraud.
You know that, you just can't admit it.....
If it were being used against your side, you'd be bitching about it. You only promote it because your side uses it to get elected.
If you were honest, you'd admit that. But you won't
What happened, B, you got another Kool-Aid transfusion?
ReplyDeleteYou keep on holding your delusion that the 2020 election was stolen, based on zero provable evidence, just conspiracy theories uttered by QAnon adherents, Russian trolls and Donald F. Trump.
Facts are stubborn things, and there are none to back you up. Just bullshit innuendo.
It appears B has just rewatched "2000 Mules".
ReplyDeleteBallot box stuffing at the scale suggested has been thoroughly debunked by multiple entities. Example: https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-usa-mules-idUSL2N2XJ0OQ
I guess the only stuffing done was for Biden and at specific locations that would change the outcome of the election. That's a really fantastic conspiracy theory that was completely disproven by multiple machine and hand recounts with voter re-verification in many states where the outcome was challenged.
B continues to be a fabulist and gaslighter extraordinaire just like Rudy G. and Kerry L.
Republicans don't like democracy because their policies aren't popular enough to win elections.
ReplyDeleteSo they don't run on their policies, that is, how they would actually do the job they are applying for, they run on fear and bullshit culture wars that they are now also losing because of their uncanny resemblance to the goddamn Handmaid's Tale.
Lies upon lies upon lies: Even the fears they run on, they have no policies for remediation of.
"Give us power because we want it."
Fuck that.
And now it's not even "Give us power" because they are trying to steal it outright and permanently.
Fuck that also.
-Doug in Sugar Pine
This might surprise you, but I never watched 2000 mules.
ReplyDeleteBut the statistics and the evidence show that the voting patterns changed greatly (and suddenly) once we allowed unsupervised ballot boxes and failed to verify voters. And, oddly, all in one direction. Strange, that.
It's the same thought process that says we should not have voter ID. Verifiable processes that ensure integrity of our election system should be a good thing. The concept that verified votes and voters is somehow a bad thing is only perpetrated by those that want to hide something. (I know, yer gonna tell me that "minorities" can't get an ID, but that is bullshit and you know it, ...same same unsupervised ballot drop boxes. If you can't find a way to put in your vote in a 12 hour window (assuming you aren't out of the country or something, and we have processes for that already), then you simply don't care. ...IF you tell me otherwise, I know you are lying and believe you are trying something nefarious.
"No actionable proof" is what you have, B. Nothing but innuendos and conspiracy theories. As for photo ID, I suppose you've forgotten about Alabama's closing DMV offices in rural minority counties immediately after they began requiring ID to vote. You may say that voter ID laws are not about suppressing minority voting, but the facts say otherwise.
ReplyDeleteSo I wonder what your objective is in slandering American democracy.
Dance dance dance.
ReplyDeleteYou know that to survive in today's society one has to have an ID/DL. The closing is in no way connected to the voting.
You fail to address the changes in votes (drastic ones at that) when ballot drop boxes became in common use...same with Mail in Votes. Odd how all those liberal types couldn't vote somehow without them.....But like the dead in Chicago, (they only show up at voting time) and they only vote Democrat they somehow seem to change the outcomes and only for the Dems. You'd thing that if it were otherwise there's be a somewhat 50/50 mix. Even a liberal like yourself could see that (if, of course, they were honest).....
Of course, no "Actionable Proof" is because there were no investigations, your side fought to keep that from happening , remember? Or are you being selective in your memories again? Since there was no proof of election interference then there was no need to investigate.....you got judges to stop any investigation......OR have you forgotten?
I'm not slandering American Democracy, I'm championing it. Free, open HONESRT elections, not the ones you want. But don't let little details like the truth get in your way, dear Ms Misfit. THe sad part is you are smart enough to see it, you just deny what you know is true because it means that your side one. "The ends Justify the Means" for you, I guess. I really thought you were better than that. Sad that you aren't.
Sixty-odd court cases where your/Trump's lawyers could have made credible allegations, backed by real proof. They didn't.
ReplyDeleteAs for needing a DL/ID to survive in today's society, well, there, too, you are just flat-out wrong. If one lives in a retirement community and you don't drive, you can get around just fine without a driver's license or ID. People who live in cities and don't work high-end jobs don't need ID.
I'm becoming more and more convinced that your idea of "American democracy" is something out of the late 18th Century: Only white rich guys got to vote.
Bullshit. You can't rent a place to sleep without an ID, you can't get bank account without an Id. Can't cash a check without an ID if you have no bank account, not 3even at cash checking places ta charge an exorbitant fee.
ReplyDeleteCan't go to the doctor without an ID, can't get a prescription without an ID.
SO how can one live without an ID in todays society>
Where you gonna get food or shelter?
I suppose you could work for cash and live in a flophouse and pay cash for everything, but that is a very tiny part of our population.
If you believe the DNC lies telling you otherwise then you really need to get out more. But I really don't you believe you are that stupid and uninformed, so you are just repeating the narrative. You know better.
B, I'm getting really tired of your style of argument, which is to belittle anyone who disagrees with you. It's exhausting not trying to sink to your level, which I often fail at doing.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't make your points without insulting me, then please rethink posting here. You're on the verge of being promoted to the Banhammer List.
Exactly where did I insult you? Pleas specify so I can refrain from doing it again.
ReplyDeleteSeriously.
I do not believe you are foolish enough to believe the narrative you keep repeating. You are a very intelligent person. You know it is bullshit, but repeating it serves your needs for an argument against Voter ID, which would reduce any chance of fraud. And we all know you don't want that.
If you'd prefer I don't post here because I call out your falsifications , then stay so and I will go elsewhere. IF you would prefer I stop posting because I disagree with you, then state that. But tell the truth as to the reason.
Watch your tone. That's all I'm saying.
