It Was Their Problem to Fix

GOP "thinkers", including Megan McArdle, continue to blame Democrats for the fix that Republicans got themselves into by first ousting Hapless Kevin and then by choosing a Christian extremist as Speaker.

AOC got it right when this whole mess got underay:

Absent a deal, the minority party doesn't vote for the majority party's candidate for Speaker. No Republican was going to make such a deal, because that would be political suicide.

McArdle's piece is how conservatives see things: Republicans are permitted to be selfish, bomb-throwing political children. Democrats are supposed to save Republicans from their own folly with nothing in return.

Fuck that noise.

Meanwhile, the TOFF continues to praise Hamas. Because he adores people and groups that practice murder and terrorism.

  1. Is the Gaetz Rule letting one member initiate a Speaker recall still in place ? The holy roller's extreme hypocrisy and lack of Speaker skills should get enough GOPers upset to oust him soon.

  2. TFH - my job is not to put pool noodles around hard corners for Republicans.

    AOC learns.

  3. Montag, I don’t know if the rule is still in effect. But if it is, Pedo Matt will pull the switch when either of his two masters(the TOFF or Vladdie) tell him to.

  4. Something tells me the paint on his new office door might not get a lot of time to dry before he's replaced.

  5. I can remember back around Obama's third year in office Charles Krauthammer wrote an opinion piece that was printed in our newspaper. He said that since Obama couldn't completely fix the mess that George Bush left the country in we should elect another Republican to give it a try.
This has stuck with me ever since. The Republicans expect the Democrats to fix their messes and complain and blame while they are doing it. Then want to get back in charge, make a new mess and blame the Democrats for it.
That Washington Post writer starts off with a version of the now classic "Both sides do it". BS.

  6. I wonder what deals/threats were made to make him speaker. I’m sure the five day weekend they just took is to strategize on how to pass anything which will not be DOA at the Senate and get Bidens signature. I don’t know if the new speaker has the skill to thread that needle, since the freedom caucus seems hell bent on not getting support from across the aisle. Also, the skeletons are starting to exit the new speaker’s closet - sooner than I expected. Sixbears has it right - Capitol staff may want to wait on changing the door sign anytime soon - just use a post-it for now.
