Russia had the means, motive and opportunity to bring down a Ukrainian dam that collapsed earlier this month while under Russian control, according to exclusive drone photos and information obtained by The Associated Press.

Kakhovka is one of a series of Soviet-era dams along the Dnieper River that were built to withstand enormous force, amounting to thousands of pounds of explosives. They were constructed in the wake of the infamous World War II “Dambusters” raids that destroyed German dams.
It apparently would have taken a ton of explosives, deep within the dam, to blow it up. That's a tad bit more than a bunch of movie commandos could carry. The Russians are the only ones who had the ability to blow up the dam.
Besides that, wrecking Ukraine is what Russians do.
My understanding is that they over-torqued it a notch. Temporary change to the game state?
ReplyDeleteThose dams were built to withstand nukes, and the Russians built them. They can only be blown from the inside-out: just a few truckloads of high-yield and an occupier's opportunity ...
ReplyDeleteIn Hollywood they know that every dam has a certain spot where even an M-80 would start a crack that will bring the dam down. They also know about the special rifles that never miss but cause all the enemy to shoot as accurately as a Star Wars Storm Trooper. Or even better the car killing shotgun that either blows the door off the hinges or can even make a 5,000+ lb. Chevy Suburban flip end over end.
