  1. Think of how common that sight was back in the mid 50's. Connie's DC-4's, 6's, 7's, Convair's Martin's etc. Imagine Getting dressed up for church to go to the airport and wait for your flight to be called, wait patiently to walk out on the tarmac and walk up the stairs, into a cabin that was pretty clean. And sit in seats that had were more like recliners than torture racks.
Air travel was 75% safe by then, compared to now where it's 99.9% safe and you have a 99.9% chance of having your flight canceled because of air rage. Flight attendants that are more like guards at a minimum, no, no security prison. Mrs. Seafury and I sure miss traveling by air. We always had as much fun getting there as we did being there. Not any more. Fortunately, we don't have to travel by air. It's not worth the hassle.

  2. A beautiful airplane. And radial engines sound the best.

  3. Hey seafury, don't forget all the cigarette and cigar smoke wafting through the cabin!

  4. Gotta love short stacks... The exhaust stacks were only a little over 2 feet long, so any unburnt gas (115/145) did shoot out the stacks as it burned. We had two of them at NAS GLYNCO and one of them is now in the museum at Pensacola. Great and smooth flying birds!
