A Republican lawmaker in Florida wants bloggers who write about elected officials to register with the state, a proposal that’s raised First Amendment concerns and the ire of GOP firebrand Newt Gingrich.
The bill, filed by Sen. Jason Brodeur of Lake Mary, would require bloggers to file periodic reports with the state if they are paid for posts about the state’s governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet members or legislative officials.

“The idea that bloggers criticizing a politician should register with the government is insane,” Gingrich wrote on Twitter Sunday. “It is an embarrassment that it is a Republican state legislator in Florida who introduced a bill to that effect. He should withdraw it immediately.”

A Republican in Florida's Legislature has filed a bill that, if enacted, would eliminate the Florida Democratic Party.
“The Ultimate Cancel Act,” filed Tuesday by state Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, would require the state’s Division of Elections to “immediately cancel” the filings of any political party whose platform had “previously advocated for, or been in support of, slavery or involuntary servitude.”
Why stop there? Why don't we outlaw the party that was opposed to helping those fighitng off German aggression in 1941?
The goddamn Republicans in Georgia have bills that have passed in both houses of the state legislature that give them (the state lege) the power to dismiss prosecutors.
ReplyDeleteSince they have long been wannabe fascists, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they've taken a meat-axe to the independent judiciary. The governor is likely to sign the legislation.
One of the legislators supporting the bill is under investigation for signing the fake electors document Fergus tried to overturn the 2020 election with, and I'm certain he'd be thrilled to dismiss the prosecutor pursuing those charges against him.
This bullshit has to stop or we've lost the country. Hungary and Russia already exist. We don't need another authoritarian state.
Fani Willis now has two weeks at the outside to file charges against Fergus, before the damn fools remove her.

Texas says, “Hold my beer” with a new Property Tax relief bill. Specifically excludes non-traditional families, and starts offering reductions at 4 kids, up to 100% at 10 kids. So, any bets if the bill is so badly written a Corporation, as a person, could qualify somehow.
