President Joe Biden called 26-year-old Brandon Tsay to thank the California man for disarming the Monterey Park shooting suspect over the weekend.
...
“I wanted to call to see how you’re doing and thank you for taking such incredible action in the face of danger,” Biden told Tsay. “I don’t think you understand just how much you’ve done for so many people who are never going to even know you. But I want them to know more about you. … You have my respect. You are America, pal. You are who we are – no, no, you are who we are. America’s never backed down, we’ve always stepped up, because of people like you.”
I'm not saying that the call was not deserved. Mr. Tsay is a hero and he has earned his accolades.
But what about this guy? Is he not also a hero?
Dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, Elisjsha Dicken was shopping with his girlfriend when a gunman opened fire on a food court at a Greenwood, Indiana, mall Sunday evening, killing three people and wounding two others.
While the shooter, 20-year-old Douglas Sapirman, fired 24 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle, Dicken did not hesitate to use the Glock handgun he was legally carrying. Sapirman was “neutralized” within two minutes, police said.
“Many more people would have died last night if not for a responsible armed citizen that took action very quickly within the first two minutes of the shooting,” Greenwood Police Chief James Ison said at a news conference Monday.
I think the difference is pretty clear. Tsay while unarmed, took on truggled with and disarmed the man saving lives without taking one. Dicken also saved lives, and undoubtedly it was stressful, but he killed a man, with a gun.
ReplyDeleteAny xtian worth their belief views killing as a sin, and they do run things around here. While aim is a skill, even a six year old can do it.
Guns are just too dangerous for my taste, i dont want them around me. I'm a Bow hunter, so I'm not against using superior force against my dinner, but nobody uses a handgun except to kill another person, or plinking etc.
This isn't the old west anymore, and most people don't want it to be.
Really? Good Christians? Try asking the people whose ancestors lived here in 1491 what they think of "good Christians". Hell, ask my own family, a goodly number of whom were abused and murdered by "good Christians" for a long time, culminating in the mass-murder of them in the middle of the last century.
ReplyDelete"Good Christians"? Give me a break.
I didn't say good Christians, but your point is taken. I'm an atheist myself, it could easily have read most people think killing other people is wrong.
DeleteAny objection to the rest?
Many more people would have died last night if not for a responsible armed citizen that took action
ReplyDeleteThat's the critical point. Dicken saved many innocent lives by taking one guilty one. Since he had the means, to refrain from acting would have been immoral.
If the local laws had been such that Dicken had been unarmed, many more innocent people would have died. In effect, those people would have been human sacrifices offered up to the fee-fees of people whose irrational discomfort about guns is more important to them than practical, life-saving solutions to violent crime.
But, Infidel753, surely more can be saved by removing guns from the equation? Not the answer you, and many others, wish to hear, but true enough…in an absolute sense. America has a huge gun violence problem, and it genuinely seems to be coming to a head. Something will have to change, but I’m damned if I can see any real path forward that is clear and makes sense.
ReplyDeleteThere are too many guns in the hands of people with no compunction about their use. There are too many guns available to those who shouldn’t be able to access them, often due to stupid/ignorant/uncaring/willfully blind individuals. There are already too many gun laws that aren’t properly enforced. There are too many cowardly individuals that see a gun as a magic total against theirs fears and prejudices. There are too many people who have been taught fear of mean guns. Hell, there are too many dogs shooting owners too!
On the whole, I think gun control in some measure will be the eventual result of all this. The percentage of the population in favor of absolute gun rights is too low to overcome what will eventually become an exhausted majority demanding change. The problem with that is how it will happen. There’s just no way a buyback will be financially viable…if a clean Republican majority takes over, I could see them actually backing a ban and confiscation program because they saw what happened on January 6 and it scared them…a clean Democratic majority would be less likely to go whole hog and would probably start chipping away, bit by bit(assault weapons ban, magazine capacity limits, military style firearms limits, etc)…and likely the final option would be a dictatorship of some sort that needs to disarm the populace to maintain control (Make America Gunfree Again?).
Dicken did it at 49 yards, with a handgun.
ReplyDeleteHence the new training sequence: The 'Dicken Drill". 10 rounds, 8 hits, 15 seconds, while moving forward to the target.
His girlfriend also saved lives by applying first aid (she is/was a nursing student). Should she get any credit also?
CP: You'd like that wouldn't you?
