Prosecutors at the state and county level have opened criminal investigations.
Good presecutors don't open investigations willy-nilly. And note that the county prosecutor is a Republican. And, if he lied on his campaign forms, that is Federal matter.
My guess is that he's going to get a Weiner-deal: Quit and the charges will disappear.

Weiner ended up in jail after resigning anyway. His name and how it ran his life is to blame for the continuation of his problems.

ReplyDeleteI doubt Santos will walk away from this. There's growing evidence he's committed different acts of fraud using fake IDs to run fake charities. He's likely on the hook for violating federal election filing regulations. And if Brazil has any balls, they'll reopen his check-kiting cases and demand extradition.

Ten Bears: I've read those legal arguments, that like it or not nobody can stop him now from taking his seat in Congress. Thing is, the minute he takes it he's under federal investigation for every effing lie he told.

Mexico has experience with these kinds of grifters. He would be likely to be extradited. I am not Mexican, but i can say that they still remember things.
