Lighting the Candle

Astra is trying for launch today, after an earlier hold:

9 minutes and counting.

UPDATE: That was a pretty launch.

UPDATE II: But it failed to reach orbit.

  1. I admit that I studied Rocket Engineering at Estes U., but shouldn't that rocket have fins on it? To stabilize just this sort of thing.

  2. Seems their testing strategy is weak.

Second stage early shutdown is poor. Shame it took
    two sats.

Interesting small launcher, barely larger than V2 at 38ft
tall about 4ft in diameter, better performing at the
first stage level and with added second stage.

Once they get it right it could be a cheap launch to
    Low orbit for small payloads.

  3. Gravity, it has a lot of pull.
