Indoctrination in Florida

Discussions of gender identity and sexual preference are banned in many Florida classrooms because of governor Ron DeSantis’s “don’t say gay” law, alongside dozens of math textbooks blocked for “prohibited topics”.

Now the Republican who has loudly condemned what he sees as the “indoctrination” of young people has made another subject compulsory: students must receive at least 45 minutes’ instruction every November about the “victims of communism”.
...
The instruction will begin in the 2023-2024 school year, DeSantis said, and will require teaching about Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Fidel Castro, as well as “poverty, starvation, migration, systemic lethal violence, and suppression of speech” endured under their leaderships in the Soviet Union, China and Cuba respectively.
...
Educators in Florida are banned, however, from teaching students about racial issues, including the history of slavery, if it makes them “feel uncomfortable”, according to DeSantis’s recently signed Stop Woke Act
.

So... Cuban communism--bad, America slavery--good, at least in DeathSantis's Florida. Whether there is merit in what Repulsive Ronnie wants to do or not, it's still state-mandated indoctrination in a particular point of view.

Which one might think that Republicans, the part of limited government involvement, would be against. But not so much.

  1. Makes it easier to point to the opposition and call them commies.

An unoriginal piece of work, considering that would be a doctrine
out of the little read book. Does each student get one as a study
    guide.

  2. Since Communism spread in the last century it's telling that he is not pushing to teach about fascism which was very notable, including the biggest war ever, in the last century. Maybe there is some fear that if the students learn about fascism they might notice that it is trying very hard for a reemergence right around them.

  3. Dan you done gave it away...

THis is your Republican Fascist Party:
In 2003, Dr. Lawrence Britt wrote "14 Defining Characteristics of Fascism":
*1. Nationalism: saying one's own country is better than other countries
    *2. Disdain for human rights
*3. Scapegoating: blaming someone else for the country's problems
    4. Putting the military first
*5. Sexism: saying men are better than women
*6. Control of mass media: telling newspapers and other sources of news what
they can and cannot tell the people
    *7. Focus on national security
*8. Close ties between religion and government
*8. Protection of businesses and corporations
    9. Suppression of labor power: preventing labor unions from becoming powerful
*10. Disdain for intellectuals and the arts: telling people not to listen to
    scientists, scholars and artists
    11. Focus on crime and crime fighting
    *12. Corruption
*13. Fraudulent elections: Even if the people vote, the votes are either
not counted or otherwise abused. In some fascist governments, leaders
    will have their opponents killed.

The fraudulent elections is both inspiring fear, uncertainty, and doubt
for previous elections and the efforts to corrupt the system for future (gerrymandering and systemic alterations).

  4. Will they allow teaching how fear of communism led many Americans to become Nazis?

  5. You've never read the alw, have you?

Nowhere does it say "Don't say Gay" in fact, it says you can't talk about sexuality to kids at that age, period, Gay, straight, whatever.
We should all be taught the evils of communism, they are teaching the evils of capitalism in schools already.

  6. B,

What is ALW, the acronym I know is Assisted Living Waiver.
That doesn't seem to correspond to HB1557 by any stretch.

We are talking about HB7 aka the stop woke bill.
It applies to K-20 that is kindergarten though age 20
    and employers.

I'd argue that HB 7 is a anti free speech act and promotes
a doctrine. Seem it took a trivial amount of time for a
    judge to agree.

Seems both seemingly promote an accepted doctrine are
    also very anti free speech.
