Interestingly, the Schrödinger's Cat thought experiment was due to a letter from Einstein. He actually suggested 100 pounds of gunpowder: "Writing to Schrödinger in early August, Einstein laid out a new scenario: Imagine a charge of gunpowder that was intrinsically unstable, as likely as not to explode over the course of a year."
